GLACIER NATIONAL PARK JULY 16

Leaving Waterton and on to Glacier National Park
we will be Crossing the Boarder into " The Lower 48"
as Alaskans say.  We were actually boarded and
even the refrigerator inspected...nope nothing hiding here.
And what did we see the morning leaving..Ground Squirrels
and Deer on our campsite!
Last view of the hotel and tour buses.
They sure are quick..hard to get a snap.

 What a view in Waterton
Even from our campsite a view of Prince of Wales Hotel

Brown spot by the tree is ..A BEAR
 Mamma Bear and three cubs

 Cattle roaming free
Cattle guard..can't cross the boarder Mr. Steer

Seemed odd seeing cattle among the trees

 Lonely Mule
Watch out..slow down..they might cross back
 Sure enough..they did..See I was right!
Camping was FULL at St. Mary's in Glacier
so we found a spot high on a hill..tight quarters ..
took the Jeep and started touring.
Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road is one
of the best senic drives in America, crossing the Continental
Divide at Logan Pass.
St. Mary's Lake in Glacier National Park
Follow the journey as we drive...
Ongoing road and retaining wall repair

 A tunnel..didn't expect this
 Geesh..tour buses after tour buses

 Oberlin Bend
 Good Golly!
 Lots of switchbacks
 We'll come back and hike

Getting tighter and tighter on the sharp curves

Going-to-the-Sun is getting busier and busier

 Oh my, another tunnel

This is fun...eating lots of dust
Glad our tour bus has airconditioning

 Lake McDonald

 Lake McDonald Lodge
Nice vacation spot within the park

Beach side..water too cold for us Floridians

 Rent a boat or fish?
Clear creek running into the lake
 Yes, could vacation here!

Since construction started 7 years ago, The National Park Service
has spent about $130 million rehabilitating the highway.

From West Glacier the road gains elevation to a steep switchback
called The Loop and continues at a steep grade to Logan Pass.

 Oberlin Bend near Logan Pass
 We see your snowball
 Big Horn Sheep
Tour Bus-we have our own Thank You

We decided to hike Along the Garden Wall.
At 6,680 feet, the highway was carved into rocky cliffs
providing visitors spectacular views of
 Clements and Oberlin Mountains

Not too sure hiker
Come on ...it's a piece of cake
Mountain goat seemed to want to follow us

 Made it !
Yes, loose gravel and rocks and straight down
that is the trail ..we're hiking on the edge

 Coming down ..watch your footing

 He was cooling off

 Bear Flower

 It's easy for him
 Yes this was the trail!
Bad Hair Day..wait to you see my friend.

Now, this is what a Bad Hair Day looks like.

 He's still following us!
 Leaving - Good.
 OH No...
After my hike I feel like he looks!

Wooden Tour boats
Heading back-tired and hungary
