CHICKEN, AK JULY 1

WE'RE BACK, UP AND RUNNING AGAIN!
Leaving Fairbanks, both "Dora" and "Boots" had a bath
and we're good to go....heading for CHICKEN.
The town, not dinner.
It was a long day; therefore, a long blog.

Passing by North Pole, AK
Still some wildfires--smokey

Eielson AFB
A Really Big Air Force Base
Planes on the tarmac

Heading south on the Richardson Highway
Tanana River

Tanana River

River is wide here

Show Creek with Pipeline on left
Pipeline

We leave the Richardson Highway at Delta Junction
and follow the Alaska Highway east
Gerstle River
Traveling the Alaska Highway towards Tok.
Seems like complete wilderness..no one else on the road
We will miss the Peace Alaska offers!

So much diversity-Mountains, Plains, Glaciers, Lakes and Streams.
22 hours of time to fish

Are we heading into more fires?
Should we go back?
You can see fires burning off in the distance!
Riverbeds are really dry in this area.

Look...there's more fires on the mountain.
wonder if they know about these.

Guess so!

Helicopters with water buckets!

Turning off the Alaska Highway to the Taylor Highway
Chicken 66   Boundary 104  Eagle 160

As locals call this route "the Goat Trail" the highway winds along the
side of the mountain like a narrow shelf, with vertical drops to the valley
far far below.

Stopped in Tok- the only city you go through twice
on the AK HWY coming and going- for fuel and water
and empty our tanks before heading North at Tetlin Junction.

Buzz..are you sure we can make it in this rig? I know the Jeep can do!
No one else is on this road!

Oh, my gosh ..look where we have to go up!
Well, there is another vehicle...however we'll be eating their dust!

GESH!

SUGAR!
OH NO..here we go eating their dust!

Subsistence hunting allowed

This says it all

Bugs are big too here

We made it!
Nice camper!

Pedro Dredge..right in front of our camping lot spot
CHICKEN behind the flags
Yup,  biffys back there!
Tomorrow we're going mining for GOLD-Oh yeah!
