NORTHSHORE MINNESOTA JULY 26

The morning started at 38 degrees and pouring.
Our rig sitting in puddles in overflow....a space came up..
we moved and it stopped raining ...
NOW - let's tour The Northshore of Minnesota.

 Gooseberry Falls

 Look Lake Superior out there
 Lower Gooseberry Falls

 Built in 1910
All construction materials were hauled up the 100 foot
cliff Split Rock Lighthouse now rests upon.
View of the lake from inside the lighthouse

The lenses were ordered from Paris France
and they float on a pool of mercury
The lenses rotate by clockwork, and originally the
lighthouse keeper wound every two hours --day and night

Looking down where they hauled the materials from to build
this impressive lighthouse

The lighthouse keepers home and 2 assistant homes
were built with running water and indoor plumbing ....
all the modern amenities to entice them to come with
their families.  All supplies came by boat and up the cliff.
 Cliffs Mining Company--Taconite

Called The Senic Highway--the trees have grown --
and  Lake Superior can't be seen!

Marina along the way--note the high stone breakwater

 Silver Bay Marina

 Two Harbors Harbor
The Edna G - retired steam tug
Duluth and Iron Range Railroad Depot

 Ship filling with Taconite

 Two Harbors Lighthouse
You too can stay at this B & B
This lighthouse still functions as a beacon for boats today.
Of course Seagulls

Tomorrow we'll zoom through Wisconsin on to the U P of Michigan
