SELDOVIA, AK JUNE 19

Seven thirty, raindrops on the roof.  Make the coffee, feed the cat, dark clouds all around.
Raining, really raining and we made plans for a trip to Seldovia, an old town across the bay.
Founded before Homer, it was a Russian fur and trading outpost--now a summer resort.

Well, heck with the rain--we'll go.  We purchased a package deal--water taxi over, pick up by cab,
eleven miles to town, walk the town for three hours, then fly back.  Now it's really comin' down.

Walked down to the docks, and I mean walked down--huge tides here(20ft) and it was low tide.
Met Captain Carrie, jumped aboard the water taxi and off we went.

 Small Boat Harbor

 Out the Channel

Land's End on the Homer Spit

 Otter welcoming us
Ran through some islands, dotted with cottages
Coming to the dock in a  beautiful cove

                                                                 Bye Carrie
Picked up by a cab (a beat up old van) and an eleven mile trip on a gravel road to town.
This is Carrie's house she built by herself.

The old Russian Church circa 1891

Needs some work--before it gets too far.

Purple wildflowers we see everywhere
View along Seldovia Slough-Raining quite hard now
and we're walking-with no place to go.  Gotta find
the only restaurant open in town!
No shopping for you girl--all closed and up for sale!!
                                                               Harbor- once a busy port

                                                           Grocery Store/ Art Gallery
                                                               One of their mini parks
Most houses on the water are built on pilings
                                                              A shot across the harbor
It's for sale and has electricity..Wow
Water from mountain streams and your half moon out back.

 Is it safe?  It's a B & B

At one time all of the waterfront of Seldovia had a boardwalk
connecting the homes and businesses along the waterfront.
But the earthquake of 1964, destroyed it and most of the town.
Some have been rebuilt but not like it was.

                                                              Finally the rain stopped!

People live here......

Yes and with a boat in your front yard--no won't be going in that one either!!

Had to walk to the airport, nothing for us seasoned hikers.
                                                                   There's one now
                                                                How's my hair look?
 Are we there yet?
                                                         Airport...Get excited...I'm outa here!
 Where's our plane?
                                                                    Our Cessna 205

                                                               Hold on--here we go!!

                                                                 About a 15 mile flight

Homer Spit, you can see how narrow and long it is

                                                                    Our campground

                                                                           Bump
