FORT NELSON, BRITISH COLUMBIA JUNE 4th- WATSON LAKE, YUKON JUNE 5th

Left Dawson Creek, BC for Fort Nelson, BC.  Washed "Dora" before we left at a car wash,
waited for a motorhome to finish; met Sam and Mickey from Maine on their way to Alaska, too.

going 90 mph over all the ruts - the mad Hatter ride!

Pine trees and more Pine trees
Up and down ..around and through
No one ahead or behind us
                                                              Wilderness
 AND Dirt...did we mention dirt?

 Slow down..no edge guards
 BRAKE!!!!

Our campsite at The Triple G RV Park   Fort Nelson, BC
Drove 294 miles today, lots of bugs to clean
Sam and Mickey at same campground, invited us over for snacks---nice people.

 Beautiful morning...more trees and curves
Pine trees as far as you can see
Imagine,.. The Army engineers building a road through this wilderness in 1942.
A 1,550 mile road through forests, mountains, over rivers in just 8 months time.
An engineering feat!  Not to mention the mosquitos (big, we've seen um), the heat, the freezing cold (-70f) and the muskeg--a swamp-like bog that turns into mud.

Up and down, around another curve
 Coasting...saving fuel   Weeeee!
Alaska Highway, for the most part, still follows the original route

                                                              Starting to rain again

 Where's the Bear?

                                                              Beautiful Scenery

                                                            Muncho Lake
                                            Muncho Lake--very pretty blue color

                                                           Big Horned Sheep

                                                             Mountain Goats
Mama Black Bear and her 3 cubs

                                                                   Buffalo
First Grizzly Bear along the road
Now that's what I wanted to see...I'll stay in the rig!
                                                            Watson Lake, YK
Sign Forrest--people leaving signs since the forties
                                              Bridge construction--one lane
                                                            A very narrow lane
Our campsite, Baby Nugget RV Park Watson Lake, Yukon
                                          Drove 348 miles--seemed like forever
Saw 7 Black Bears and 1 Grizzly Bear, 1 Moose, Big Horned Sheep, Caribou, and Buffalo
Dora and Boots pretty dirty, but their  RV wash wasn't working.
Tomorrow: ALASKA!
