MACKINAC ISLAND AUGUST 3

Touring Mackinac Island under cool, grey skies!
Took the 10 am boat from St Ignace
The Grand Hotel
Opened July 10, 1887
A "Summer Colony" of the 19th Century
Victorian and Neoclassic homes
Many wealthy industrialists built summer cottages 
along the Islands' bluffs for extended stay.

Only horses on the island to do the heavy work.
One of the "Tall Ships" was in port when we arrived

Tourists filled the streets by mid-afternoon

The Park in front of the Fort was used to raise crops
to feed the garrison.

So..We went into the ice cream parlor side entrance.

You can walk or ride bikes all around the island.
We chose to walk.

We had an enjoyable day!

Tomorrow we cross the Mackinac Bridge into 
lower Michigan as they say.
